Why is packaging
for pulses so important?
Bag or pouch for legumes
Pulses are a healthy and nutritious source of protein, fibre and minerals, but they require proper packaging to maintain their quality, taste and safety. They are affordable, versatile and rich in nutrients such as protein, fibre, iron and folate. From chickpeas to black beans, lentils to snap peas, legumes come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and flavors that can satisfy any palate. However, as with any food, pulses need to be stored and packaged properly to retain their freshness, flavour and nutritional value.
Packaging for pulses should be designed to protect the product from external factors that could degrade its quality, such as moisture, oxygen and light.
Packaging for legumes:
- Plastic bags: This is the most common type of packaging for pulses. They are lightweight, cheap and provide a good barrier against moisture and oxygen. However, they are not always the most environmentally friendly choice.
- Paper bags: These are a more sustainable alternative to plastic bags. They are recyclable as they can be made with recycled materials thus reducing pollution in the environment. However, they are not as effective in preventing moisture and oxygen from reaching the pulses.
In particular packaging for legumes:
- Bag for beans – central gluing with or without pleats
- Doypack oval bottom pouch without pleats
- Flat Bottom square bottom pouch with pleats
- Plastic bag with glued bottom
- Roll packaging
When choosing the packaging for pulses, it is important to consider factors such as the type of pulse, storage conditions and the environmental impact of the packaging. But in addition to the factors and type of packaging, it is important to consider the labeling on the packaging. The label should include information such as the type of pulses, country of origin and expiry date.
Overall, the packaging of pulses should be designed to protect the product and appeal to consumers. This includes choosing the right material, ensuring that the packaging is easy to open and close and designing an attractive label. By taking these factors into account, Xenos Packaging can create a high quality product that meets consumer needs while being environmentally responsible.
